INVESTIGATION - For several years, tragedies have been multiplying on the emblematic "Prom": nineteen deaths since 2020. On Monday evening, a terrible accident that cost the lives of two young adults rekindled questions about the safety of this emblematic axis of the Côte d'Azur.
The collision was of unprecedented violence. Monday evening, shortly before 10:30 p.m., at 497 Promenade des Anglais, a motorcyclist collided head-on with a young man on a bicycle while he was crossing a pedestrian crossing. The 19-year-old cyclist was killed instantly as was the passenger on the motorized two-wheeler, born in 2003. The motorcycle driver was seriously injured. Yet another tragedy on this iconic Côte d'Azur road, the scene of a worrying series of incidents in recent years. Nineteen deaths since 2020. Four already since the beginning of the year.
The emotion is all the more heightened as the initial findings of the investigation suggest excessive speed on the motorcycle, although the expert opinion is still awaited. The possibility that the cyclist failed to respect the traffic light is also being considered. However, this is not the first time this intersection has been a tragedy.
